The United Nations declared November 15, 2022 as the “Day of Eight Billion” to mark its estimate that humanity has reached another billion milestone.
Today the world’s population reached 8 billion people which is another milestone in human development. The main cause of this unprecedented growth is the gradual increase in human lifespan owing to improvements in public health, nutrition, personal hygiene and medicine.
This high growth is also the result of persistent levels of fertility in some countries. However, according to Statistics Poland (GUS) in the first half of 2021 vital statistics of population more than 166 thousand of live births were registered. More than 11.5 thousand in relation to the number noted in the first half of the previous year, and the birth rate decreased by 0.5 promile point (prom. p.) to the level of 8.7‰
While it took the global population 12 years to grow from 7 to 8 billion, it will take approximately 15 years—until 2037— for it to reach 9 billion, a sign that the overall growth rate of the global population is slowing.
