In the latest edition of the prestigious THE (Times Higher Education) World University Rankings 2024, a total of 37 Polish universities have made their mark. Among the leading technical universities in Poland, Opole University of Technology has emerged as a standout institution.

The authorities at the university emphasize that THE World University Rankings is the largest and most prestigious global university ranking, encompassing over 100 countries. This year marks its milestone 20th edition.

Last year, Opole University of Technology made its debut in the rankings, securing the 9th place among 32 academic institutions in Poland. This year, it has clinched the 4th position in the ranking of Polish technical universities.

“For our academic community, this is a source of great pride, especially since both prospective students and foreign researchers seeking institutions for their studies refer to the ranking results,”

noted Professor Marcin Lorenc, the rector of Opole University of Technology.

In this year’s edition of the ranking, over 1,900 universities from 108 countries were evaluated. On the global scale, Opole University of Technology maintained its position from the previous year, placing in the 1201-1500 range, alongside institutions like Warsaw University of Technology, Silesian University of Technology, and Poznań University of Technology. This achievement reflects one of the top performances among the 37 Polish universities featured in the current ranking.

The THE ranking assesses universities across their core missions: teaching, research, knowledge transfer, and international outlook. To ensure comprehensive and balanced comparisons, institutions are evaluated based on 18 carefully calibrated performance indicators grouped into five categories: teaching (learning environment), research environment (size, research income, and reputation), research quality (citation impact, research strength), international outlook (staff, students, and research), and industry (knowledge transfer, industry income, and patents).
