Orlen and Slovakia’s ZSE Energia Sign Major Gas Supply Deal

Orlen signs a key gas supply deal with Slovakia’s ZSE Energia, enhancing regional energy security and diversification.

ZSE Energia, a.s. is one of the biggest gas and electricity suppliers in Slovakia Our company has been present mainly in the Western Slovakia for more than 100 years, but we provide our quality services also outside this region. Every day, more than a million customers rely on us.

Orlen, through its subsidiary PGNiG Supply & Trading, has signed a significant gas supply agreement with Slovakia’s ZSE Energia. This contract will cover around 30% of ZSE Energia’s annual gas demand. The deal is set to commence in January and last until the end of 2025, with gas prices determined by market conditions. This agreement marks the first time that ZSE Energia will source natural gas from the north.

    Diversification and Energy Security

The contract is a notable example of increasing cooperation between Central and Eastern European companies to diversify supplies and enhance regional energy security. The gas, including supplies from the USA, will be delivered as LNG to a terminal where Orlen holds long-term capacity reservations. After regasification, the gas will travel through the Poland-Lithuania pipeline into the Polish gas system and then to Slovakia via the Vyrava interconnector.

Orlen highlighted that the new interconnection infrastructure developed in recent years was crucial for this deal. These connections link Poland with other Central and Eastern European countries and the Baltic region, enabling Orlen to sell diversified gas supplies both domestically and abroad. Orlen is a multi-energy company with refineries, fuel stations, and plans to expand into nuclear energy with an SMR by 2030.
