OUR NEWS. Włodzimierz Czarzasty sits on the board of a foundation led by an open supporter of Putin and Russia

Speaker of the Sejm Włodzimierz Czarzasty has for years been a member of the board of a foundation headed by a man who openly praises Vladimir Putin and echoes the Kremlin’s aggressive propaganda, the Niezalezna.pl portal has found. The man in question is Marian Kubalica, a longtime associate of Czarzasty from the “Ordynacka” Association. On social media, Kubalica lauds Putin, shares posts by the Russian Foreign Ministry’s spokeswoman and the Russian embassy, and writes brazenly about Andrzej Poczobut—imprisoned by the Lukashenko regime: “He’s in prison by his own choice. An idiot.”

According to data from the National Court Register, Włodzimierz Czarzasty has continuously sat on the board of the Great Blue Foundation since June 25, 2008. The president of the foundation’s management board—also since 2008—is Marian Kubalica.

The two men know each other well. Kubalica comes from the same milieu as the Left’s leader—he was an activist in the Socialist Union of Polish Students (SZSP) and, from 2004 to 2008, the executive secretary of the “Ordynacka” Association, which Czarzasty previously led. Kubalica in fact replaced him as chairman of “Ordynacka.”

An “outstanding” Putin and an “idiot” Poczobut

What Marian Kubalica has been publishing online for years should be a warning signal for any Polish politician—but for reasons unknown it does not bother Czarzasty, who continues to sit on the board of Kubalica’s foundation. The Speaker of the Sejm’s longtime acquaintance does not hide his fascination with Russia ruled by a criminal regime.

In February 2025—at a time when Russia was continuing its brutal aggression against Ukraine—Kubalica posted a comment on Facebook devoted to Vladimir Putin. As he wrote: “An outstanding Russian leader who looks after the interests of Russia and Russians.”

A review of the social media of the foundation president on whose board Czarzasty sits is a journey through the depths of pro-Russian disinformation. Kubalica’s profile includes, among other things, materials promoting Maria Zakharova, the Russian Foreign Ministry’s spokeswoman known for anti-Polish tirades. Sharing an interview with her, Kubalica added the comment: “You may not like her, you may disagree with her, but it’s worth listening.” On another occasion, the former head of “Ordynacka” shared a post from the Russian embassy.

Czarzasty’s colleague from the Great Blue Foundation also readily turns to posts by domestic advocates of “reconciliation” with Moscow. Among the authors he shares are Krzysztof Podgórski (known for publications in the pro-Kremlin Sputnik), Adam Wielomski, and Piotr Panasiuk. Kubalica also reposted content from the “Russian House in Gdańsk”—an institution that is part of Russia’s “soft power” in Poland.

In October 2025, Kubalica posted a graphic reading: “RUSSIANS ARE NOT MY ENEMY,” and on another image suggested that Poland should choose a path to the East rather than the “rotten” West—adding a comment that it is Russia that today defends European values.

He also praised the Sino-Russian BRICS bloc, setting it against the United States.

That is not all. With equal vehemence, Kubalica attacks those who are victims of the Lukashenko and Putin regimes. In one discussion about Andrzej Poczobut—a Polish journalist and activist of the Polish minority in Belarus, sentenced in a political trial to eight years in a penal colony—the head of the foundation on whose board Czarzasty sits wrote: “He’s in prison by his own choice. An idiot.”

Kubalica also defends the Belarusian regime and launches vulgar attacks on the United States and Ukrainians:
