PGE and Ørsted Select Suppliers for Foundations and Internal Cables for Baltica 2

The PGE Group and Ørsted have signed contracts with Navantia-Windar and Orient Cable (NBO), which will supply foundations and internal cables for the Baltica 2 project, one of the phases of the Baltica Offshore Wind Farm.

“With the signing of the turbine contract for the Baltica 2 stage in April, we began a series of important contracts for the project. Securing components for Baltica 2 will allow us to move on to the next stages of the project’s development. Our planned activities consistently bring us closer to achieving the PGE Group’s strategic goal of building 2.5 GW of offshore wind power by 2030,”

said Wojciech Dąbrowski, CEO of PGE Polska Grupa Energetyczna.

Ørsted has 30 years of experience in preparing for the construction of offshore wind farms, contracting contractors for them, and building and operating the farms. Together with PGE, we have made a commitment to provide large-scale offshore wind energy for Poland. With the signing of two more strategic component contracts for Baltica 2, we are moving forward step by step with this groundbreaking, pioneering project for offshore wind energy in Poland,”

said Agata Staniewska, Managing Director of Ørsted Offshore Poland.

In April this year, PGE and Ørsted reached an important milestone on the way to the Baltica 2 project with a capacity of around 1.5 GW. At that time, they signed the first of the contracts for the supply of a key component – the contract for the supply of wind turbines. Following this, in June, an offshore transformer station contract was signed. The next step is the signing of further contracts for Baltica 2 by a joint venture formed by PGE Baltica of the PGE Group and Ørsted, which are implementing the Baltica Offshore Wind Farm project. The Navantia-Windar consortium will supply the foundations – monopiles, the largest of which exceed 100 meters in length and weigh more than 2,000 tons.

On the other hand, Orient Cable (NBO) will supply 66 kV submarine internal cables with a total length of about 170 km, which will connect the turbines to marine transformer stations.

Ørsted and PGE plan to complete the construction of the Baltica 2 stage, with a capacity of about 1.5 GW, by the end of 2027, and the Baltica 3 stage, with a capacity of about 1 GW, by the end of 2029. The investors are yet to make a final investment decision (FID). Baltica 2 and Baltica 3 will form the Baltica Offshore Wind Farm with a total capacity of 2.5 GW, which will significantly contribute to the transformation of Poland’s energy sector by providing green energy to nearly 4 million households in Poland.
