PiS Calls for Referendum on Illegal Migration: “The Government Is Deliberately Endangering Polish Citizens”

“We are deeply concerned by the current situation, which is why we are calling on Poles to sign the referendum petition. Only immense public pressure can compel this unstable government, focused on polls and positions, to make the right decisions at this critical moment to secure Poland’s borders,” declared PiS MEP Tobiasz Bocheński.

Referendum on Illegal Migration

Law and Justice (PiS) is collecting signatures for a referendum against illegal migration. The party emphasises that the influx of foreigners results in a decline in both personal and economic security.

During a press conference today, PiS MPs announced that over 500,000 people have already signed the petition for holding the referendum. MP Mariusz Błaszczak, referring to the situation on the border with Germany, stated that “restoring border controls is merely a facade in the face of a severe migration crisis.”

“If Donald Tusk truly cared about stopping the German services from pushing illegal migrants into our country, he would actually encourage volunteers from the Border Defence Movement to document the actions of the Polish Border Guard. But clearly, the directives for the Border Guard from Tusk’s government are different. They are still expected to accept illegal migrants being sent to Poland by German authorities. This is happening because the Border Defence Movement is being obstructed. Its leader, Robert Bąkiewicz, is once again under attack. Adam Bodnar is reopening an old case from years ago, when Bąkiewicz and volunteers defended churches from activists trying to disrupt religious ceremonies,” he said.

He reminded the public that “the migration pact is set to take effect on July 1 next year, what we’re seeing at the border is only the beginning of what Poland will face if the pact is implemented.”

“To stop the threat posed by the pact, Law and Justice has been collecting signatures for months to initiate a national referendum on the matter. We already have 500,000 signatures. We believe more are needed, knowing full well that the Tusk government and its representatives in the National Electoral Commission will likely challenge their validity. We strongly urge everyone who cares about our country’s security to sign the referendum petition rejecting the migration pact. Signatures can be submitted at parliamentary, senatorial, and MEP offices,” he appealed.

He added that “PiS does not accept the existence of districts or cities in Poland falling outside the control of state services, as has happened in parts of Western Europe, nor does it accept a situation in which women feel unsafe leaving their homes after dark.”

Bocheński: Tusk Was Aware of Merz’s Plans

MEP Tobiasz Bocheński stated that “what this government is doing amounts to a deliberate act of endangering Polish men and women, just look at Donald Tusk’s views on migration.”

“What has been happening on the western border for months, the inactivity of the services, voivodes, and other state inspections, is no accident. It was a conscious decision. As is known, Chancellor Merz, who announced a coalition agreement with the SPD, also declared a change in Germany’s migration policy. Donald Tusk knew this because he’s a party colleague of Mr. Merz. The fact that nothing was happening on our border was a deliberate act serving German interests, facilitating the transfer of illegal migrants from Germany to Poland. The Border Defence Movement has carried out a great, heroic task in stepping in where state services have failed,” he said.

The politician emphasised that “if Law and Justice were in power, the Polish state would use all its capabilities, services, and inspections to make it clear to Germany that illegal transfers of migrants across the border, against the will of Poles and against Poland’s national interest, would not be tolerated.”

“We are deeply troubled by the current situation, which is why we are appealing to Poles to sign the referendum petition. Only significant public pressure can compel this unstable government—preoccupied with polls and political positions—to make the necessary decisions to secure our border,” he concluded.
