Poland is grappling with a surge in illegal border crossings from Belarus, with nearly 26,000 attempts recorded so far this year. According to the Polish Border Guard, the daily average is around 100 attempts, with recent figures highlighting over 300 incidents between September 20-22 alone. The situation is becoming increasingly tense, as aggressive migrants continue to assault Polish soldiers and officers with stones and other objects.
Stanisław Żaryn, advisor to the Polish President, warned that the situation could escalate in the coming weeks. He pointed out that both Belarus and Russia are likely to intensify hybrid operations against Poland, taking advantage of the country’s current focus on dealing with flood relief and other domestic issues.
Belarusian opposition leader Paweł Łatuszka echoed concerns, attributing the growing crisis to the actions of Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko, who is allegedly facilitating the migration pressure. He suggested closing railway crossings to signal Poland’s resolve and force Lukashenko to reconsider his actions.
While the crisis unfolds, experts warn that Russia’s influence over the migration flow could heighten tensions further, making the border a critical flashpoint for potential escalation.
