Poland has claimed its first winter sports podium of the 2024/25 season, as short-track speed skater Michał Niewiński took bronze in the 1,000-meter event at the World Tour in Montreal.
Niewiński lived up to his recent statement about feeling “stronger than last season” by securing third place behind Jens van ‘t Wout of the Netherlands and Roberts Krūzbergs of Latvia.
The race was a gripping contest, with Niewiński fending off a late challenge from Italy’s Pietro Sighel in the final lap to secure his spot on the podium. This achievement marks the first medal for Poland in the current winter sports season, reflecting the country’s promising start under the updated ISU rules, which award medals at each weekend’s competition.
The next World Tour event kicks off on November 1, once again in Montreal, giving the Polish team another shot at success.
