A Zimbabwean national brutally beat a resident of Lublin. Immediately after the incident, police did not arrest the attacker but instead placed him in a sobering-up facility. Law and Justice (PiS) MP Michał Moskal has announced that he will intervene in the matter. “I do not understand this leniency toward a foreign criminal. We cannot allow Polish streets to look like those of Western Europe,” the politician said.
Zimbabwean national beats Lublin resident
In the night from Saturday to Sunday, at around 2:30 a.m., a violent altercation broke out in one of the food establishments on Lublin’s pedestrian street between two men: a Polish resident of Lublin and a 40-year-old Zimbabwean national. The incident took place in the very centre of Lublin and required the intervention of emergency services and police.
According to an eyewitness account, the conflict began when one of the men standing at the bar was pushed away. The exchange quickly escalated. After a short break, the Zimbabwean national returned and attacked the Polish man, striking him in the head with a beer glass he was holding. The blow caused serious injuries to the victim.
Information about the incident was confirmed by Junior Warrant Officer Beata Kieliszek of the Provincial Police Headquarters in Lublin. According to police, the perpetrator was quickly subdued by the venue’s security staff and then handed over to officers. It turned out that the Zimbabwean national was under the influence of alcohol at the time of the intervention, which is why he was taken to a sobering-up facility.
The injured resident of Lublin was transported to hospital. Doctors had to stitch a large wound on his head. In addition, injuries in the spinal cord area were diagnosed, which may require further examination and treatment.
After the perpetrator sobered up, he was charged with causing minor bodily harm. According to information reported by the media, the man was not remanded in custody and was released after the procedural steps had been completed.
“Police did not file a request for his deportation because the legal classification of the act was relatively low. The man had also had no prior problems with the law (…) Police officers do not know the reasons for the incident. They treated it as an ordinary verbal dispute that ended in physical violence. Such incidents are not even recorded in police information logs,”
the wp.pl portal reported.
PiS MP intervenes
Michał Moskal, a Law and Justice MP, reacted to the shocking case. The politician stressed that he was stunned that the Zimbabwean national had not been deported.
“On the night from Saturday to Sunday in Lublin, a drunk Zimbabwean national attacked a resident of Lublin with a broken glass. The victim suffered serious injuries to the back of his head and required hospitalisation. The perpetrator was only a few centimetres away from cutting the victim’s artery. Police treated the immigrant exceptionally leniently: they applied a mild legal classification of the act, he faces a maximum of only up to two years in prison, and they refused to file a request for the criminal’s deportation. I have great respect for brave officers, but I do not understand the decision of the leadership of the Lublin police,”
he said.
The politician announced that he had submitted a parliamentary intervention in the matter to the Municipal Police Commander in Lublin, “demanding explanations that he will present to the public.” Moskal also intends to submit a parliamentary question to the Ministry of the Interior and Administration.
“I do not understand this leniency toward a foreign criminal. We cannot allow Polish streets to look like those of Western Europe, where the state and law enforcement services have long since abdicated in the face of immigrant crime,”
he declared.
