    Traditional Polish Delicacy

    Ingredients:

    • 2 apples
    • 200 ml milk (slightly less than 1 cup)
    • 1 egg
    • 150 g (1 cup) all-purpose flour
    • 1 tablespoon vanilla sugar
    • 1 teaspoon sugar
    • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
    • For frying: oil or clarified butter

    Preparation:

    1. Start by sifting the flour into a large bowl, adding vanilla sugar, sugar, and baking soda. Mix these dry ingredients until evenly combined.
    2. Then, add milk and egg to the bowl of dry ingredients. Whisk everything together until you get a smooth batter without lumps.
    3. Peel the apples, cut them into quarters, and remove the cores. Then slice the quarters into thin slices. You can also grate the apples if you prefer a smoother apple mixture.
    4. Add the sliced apples to the batter and mix thoroughly to evenly distribute the fruit in the batter.
    5. Heat the frying fat in a skillet. You can use oil or clarified butter. Once the fat is hot, spoon about a tablespoon of batter onto the skillet and place 3 slices of apples on top of each fritter.
    6. Fry the fritters for about 1.5 minutes until they start to brown. Then, flip them over and fry for another 1.5 minutes on the other side.
    7. When the apple fritters are ready, remove them from the skillet and serve on a plate. Dust with powdered sugar or serve with jam.
