A pair of Polish fighter jets based in Malbork intercepted two Russian Su-30SM2 aircraft operating from Kaliningrad. The operation was announced by Poland’s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of National Defence, Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz.
According to Kosiniak-Kamysz, “The Russians once again conducted aggressive surveillance over the Baltic Sea during our air defense system integration exercises. Therefore, a pair of our alert fighter jets from Malbork was scrambled and intercepted a pair of Su-30SM2 aircraft from Kaliningrad.”
The head of the Ministry of National Defence stressed that “the Russian aircraft did not approach Polish airspace.”
He added, “In addition, a pair of Swedish fighter jets was operating over the Baltic Sea and escorted the intercepted Russian aircraft.”
