President Karol Nawrocki Fulfills His Promises on Mercosur Agreement

During his visit to Italy, President Karol Nawrocki spoke with Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni about forming a blocking minority against the trade agreement between the European Union and the South American group Mercosur. Talks aimed at saving European – including Polish – agriculture are also to be held during today’s visit of the Polish president to Paris. In doing so, Karol Nawrocki is fulfilling the promises he made before the elections to prevent the EU-Mercosur agreement from coming into force.

The agreement with the Mercosur group benefits only Germany, which will be able to push its industrial products into South America thanks to it. For all other EU countries, including Poland, Mercosur means the destruction of agriculture and a flood of much lower-quality and harmful food (as it allows, for example, pesticides banned in the EU) from across the Atlantic.

President Karol Nawrocki is trying to prevent this, since “our” Prime Minister Tusk (the same one who assured that “no one in the European Union will outplay me”) has in fact capitulated before Mercosur together with his entire team. The president reiterated his assurances during the recent harvest festival at Jasna Góra, where he emphasized the important role of farmers in the architecture of Poland’s security. “I am your voice on the international stage,” the president declared.

“The Polish countryside has always been the heart of Polish tradition and our national heritage. It is not only food security, but Poland is inscribed in the countryside itself – in your preservation of identity, our national tradition, our national values, our culinary culture,” stressed Karol Nawrocki, reminding: “In the first weeks, I announced a bill to protect the Polish countryside. It is a law that includes a ban on the purchase of Polish land, because we have as much of the Republic as we have land.”

At the Presidential Harvest Festival, Karol Nawrocki directly referred to the EU agreement with Mercosur countries. “When I hear that we are to sign the European Union’s agreement with the Mercosur states, I say ‘no’, I do not agree, and I will devote all my efforts to making sure it does not happen,” he emphasized.
