Polish-Hungarian relations, including economic cooperation, as well as support for Hungarian efforts to become independent from Russian gas – were the key topics raised during the meeting between the President of Poland, Karol Nawrocki, and Hungarian Prime Minister Peter Magyar.

The politicians met on Wednesday at the Belvedere Palace. As the Chancellery of the President of the Republic of Poland informed after the meeting, the main topics of the discussion between Nawrocki and Magyar were Polish-Hungarian relations, including economic cooperation, as well as support for Hungary’s efforts to become independent from Russian gas.

“Moreover, issues of regional security were discussed, as well as deepening cooperation between both countries within regional formats: the Visegrad Group, the Bucharest Nine and the Three Seas Initiative” – the Chancellery of the President of the Republic of Poland (KPRP) reported on X.

Peter Magyar, as the new Hungarian Prime Minister, has embarked on his first foreign trip. His first destination, in line with his election promises, was Poland. On Tuesday, he arrived in Krakow, with Warsaw and Gdansk next on his list, which he is scheduled to visit on Wednesday afternoon.

On Thursday morning, the Hungarian Prime Minister will travel to Vienna, and from there he will return by train to Budapest.

First foreign visit

The visit to Poland is Magyar’s first foreign trip since being sworn in as Prime Minister on 9 May. His party, TISZA, won the parliamentary elections in April, ending Viktor Orban’s 16-year rule.

After the announcement of the Hungarian parliamentary election results, President Karol Nawrocki congratulated Peter Magyar on his victory. He added that the high turnout and Magyar’s result gave him and the TISZA party a strong public mandate. The President also expressed hope that the good traditions of Polish-Hungarian relations would be maintained.
