President Karol Nawrocki signed 10 bills today, including the “Act on the Protection of the Polish Countryside.” “Thanks to my legislative initiative, with the support of almost the entire parliament, a solution has been adopted that bans the sell-off of Polish land into foreign hands for 10 years,” he emphasized.
In a statement released today, the President of the Republic of Poland announced that he had signed ten bills.
“Among them is a special project, the Act on the Protection of the Polish Countryside. This is a project I initiated on the fourth day of my presidency during a meeting with farmers in Krąpiel. Thanks to my legislative initiative, with the support of almost the entire parliament, a solution has been adopted that bans the sell-off of Polish land into foreign hands for 10 years. This solution is now becoming universally binding law in the Republic of Poland,” said President Karol Nawrocki.
He added that today the Polish countryside “is exposed to numerous and serious threats.”
“On the one hand, it is being hit by the effects of the Mercosur agreement, and on the other – by the uncontrolled inflow of goods from Ukraine. In addition, there are the requirements of the so-called Green Deal, which in many cases imposes unjustified burdens on farmers. (…) In these circumstances, the Polish state must stand on the side of Polish farmers,” Karol Nawrocki said.
He also declared the need for continued support for Polish agriculture.
A False Narrative by the Government
President Nawrocki concluded that since the beginning of his presidency he has signed 167 bills submitted by parliament.
“I say this because you probably will not hear it from the prime minister or from representatives of the government. Instead, there will once again be attempts to cover up their own incompetence with a narrative about the president allegedly blocking the work of the government. This is a false story, an attempt at political manipulation,” President Nawrocki added.
He noted that many of the 167 signed bills “are of a technical nature.”
“Of course, there are also those that were adopted after I had previously pointed out errors and refused to sign them. After my remarks were taken into account, they were signed. When I said that I would encourage this government to work, I also meant this kind of action,” the president said. He indicated that such laws include, among others, the act on assistance to Ukrainian citizens, the energy shield act, and the act on reserves of petroleum products and gas.
“Key Promises Were Not Implemented”
“Behind my veto there is always a constructive proposal. Better law. Law that is closer to the expectations of Poles than the one prepared by the government. What is telling is that among all 194 bills submitted to me, there were none that would implement the most important promises of the current governing coalition,” Karol Nawrocki emphasized.
He added that “when the government did not fulfill its commitments,” he, as President of the Republic of Poland, presented 16 legislative initiatives.
“However, the government and the parliamentary majority have so far said ‘veto’ to 15 out of these 16 proposals by simply not working on them. This best shows the situation we are facing today. The government does not fulfill its own promises while at the same time blocking solutions that Poles expect,” he concluded.
