President on Poland-US relations: “Donald Trump sees Poland as the most important ally”

“Donald Trump sees Poland as the most important ally in Central Europe. Thanks to record-high defense spending, we are a credible NATO partner,” said President of Poland Karol Nawrocki, who is currently on his second visit to the United States.

Karol Nawrocki was sworn in as President of Poland on August 6. Although his presidency is only in its second month, the head of state is already making his second visit to the United States – this time accompanied by First Lady Marta Nawrocka.

President Nawrocki’s visit to the United States will last several days – from Sunday to Wednesday. The trip is primarily tied to his participation in the 80th session of the United Nations General Assembly (ONZ), during which Karol Nawrocki will deliver a speech.

On Sunday, President Karol Nawrocki and his wife took part in the unveiling ceremony of a plaque commemorating former Prime Minister Jan Olszewski at the National Shrine of Our Lady of Czestochowa in Doylestown, Pennsylvania. They then attended a Holy Mass. Afterwards, the presidential couple met with representatives of the American Polonia. During the event, the head of state presented state decorations.

The Polish head of state, currently in the United States, also found time to speak with the media. In an interview with Telewizja RAMPA, he emphasized the importance of the Polish diaspora in shaping Poland’s image abroad, as well as the role it plays in Polish-American relations.

He also thanked Poles living in the US who had voted for him in the presidential election. “I see the Nation, the national community, as one that is not limited only to Poles living within the borders of the Republic. It also includes Poles living abroad,” he said.

“I am glad that I won thanks to the votes of the Polonia in the United States. You are ambassadors of the Republic, deeply rooted in values, the best example of which is the American Czestochowa,” he added.

With regard to current geopolitical challenges, the president stressed that Poland is facing actions typical of hybrid warfare – pressure on state borders, the Baltic Sea region, and airspace. For this reason, he attaches special importance to Polish-American relations, as well as his personal contacts with President Donald Trump.

Referring to Donald Trump’s remarks on drones that had violated Polish airspace, the president said: “Donald Trump sees Poland as the most important ally in Central Europe. Thanks to record-high defense spending, we are a credible NATO partner.”
