President Opposes ETS. Sharp Criticism of the EU Summit: ”Against the National Interest”

Karol Nawrocki made his stance perfectly clear: there is no consent for this. The kind of solutions accepted by Donald Tusk stand in opposition to Poland’s national interest. “The President will do everything in his power to ensure they do not take effect,” said the head of the Presidential Chancellery, Zbigniew Bogucki, in response to a question from the Niezależna.pl portal regarding the conclusions of the EU summit on ETS2.

The head of the Polish government enthusiastically assured that the summit resulted in provisions favorable to Poland. However, EU leaders – including Tusk – did not firmly challenge the climate target for 2040. The European Commissionproposed that the European Union commit to reducing greenhouse gas emissions by 90 percent compared to 1990 levels. The 2040 target is meant to be transitional – leading the Community toward achieving climate neutrality by 2050.

Niezależna.pl asked Bogucki about what was decided by the leaders and Donald Tusk during the latest summit.

“The President makes it very clear: there is no consent for this. Prime ministers come and go, governments change, but Poland must endure. We have a duty to protect Polish families, Polish security, and the economy. The kind of solutions accepted by Donald Tusk run counter to Poland’s national interest. The President will do everything in his power to ensure that such measures do not apply,” he said.

He announced that President Nawrocki would use both “legal and political instruments.” “Seeing how the coalition is cracking, God willing, this government won’t last long,” he added.

“The ETS should be limited or withdrawn. We are facing military threats, as well as economic and demographic problems. Yet under a mad green ideology, Brussels liberals and leftists – the elites holding a majority in EU institutions – are trying to convince us that emissions are the main issue. This thinking is detached from reality. Asia and the United States act differently. Is Europe supposed to change this course? It won’t. ETS2 means over 20,000 złotys a year for a Polish family. It’s a blow to Poles,” he concluded.
