Priest Olszewski Released from Detention: Supporters Celebrate Outside Jail

Polish priest Michał Olszewski freed after months of detention; supporters gathered outside Warsaw jail to welcome him.

    Release After Months of Detention

Father Michał Olszewski, who had been in custody for several months, was released earlier today. His release followed a decision by the Warsaw Court of Appeals, which allowed for temporary freedom for Olszewski and two government officials from the Ministry of Justice, provided they each post a 350,000 PLN bail by November 15.

    Supporters and Bail Arrangements

This morning, a group of supporters gathered outside the Warsaw detention facility, where they waited to welcome Olszewski. His bail was paid by members of the Congregation of the Sacred Heart, and confirmation of the payment was issued by his attorney, Michał Skwarzyński. Bail for the two officials was paid by Michał Rachoń, TV Republika’s programming director.

    Allegations of Mistreatment

Father Olszewski’s attorney disclosed that the priest had endured alleged mistreatment while detained. Now free, he expressed gratitude to his supporters for their steadfast presence and encouragement outside the jail facility.
