“The inspection of the runway, adjacent areas at the Radom airport, and parts of the F-16 aircraft has been completed,” announced Prosecutor Piotr Antoni Skiba, spokesman for the District Prosecutor’s Office. He also added that the prosecution is now planning to obtain the necessary expert opinions and further evidence.
On Thursday, shortly after 7 p.m., an F-16 aircraft crashed during training flights ahead of the AirSHOW in Radom. The pilot, Major Maciej “Slab” Krakowian, did not survive. The causes of the accident, in which Maj. Krakowian lost his life, are being investigated by the State Commission for the Investigation of Aircraft Accidents involving State Aviation, working in cooperation with the prosecution and the Military Police.
“The inspection of the runway and adjacent areas at the Radom airport, as well as parts of the F-16 aircraft, has been completed,” confirmed Prosecutor Skiba.
He emphasized that the site has been handed over by military prosecutors to airport authorities, “who are now responsible for determining whether the runway can be safely used.”
According to the District Prosecutor’s Office spokesman, the inspection and evidence-securing process, carried out so quickly, covered an area much larger than originally planned. He stressed that this was possible thanks to full cooperation between members of the State Commission for the Investigation of Aircraft Accidents involving State Aviation, military prosecutors from Warsaw and Lublin, and Military Police officers from Warsaw, Lublin, Przasnysz, Kraków, Łask, and Bydgoszcz.
On Saturday, the inspection was supported by nearly 200 soldiers from the Territorial Defense Forces, who conducted a line search of the green areas near the runway, as well as dozens of sappers equipped with specialized gear.
“All parts of the aircraft wreckage have been transferred to a designated location,” said Prosecutor Skiba. He added that the prosecution is now planning to obtain the necessary expert analyses and additional evidence.
According to Prosecutor Skiba, the next press briefing or statement on the matter will not take place before Wednesday afternoon, after an initial summary of the procedural activities and following consultations with members of the State Commission for the Investigation of Aircraft Accidents involving State Aviation, with whom – as he emphasized – cooperation has been exemplary and highly professional.
