During his visit to the United States on September 3, President Karol Nawrocki will discuss Poland’s military and energy security with the American leader, Donald Trump; he will also emphasize that Russia and Vladimir Putin “must not be trusted,” said the head of the Presidential Chancellery, Zbigniew Bogucki.
In an interview with Polsat News, the head of the presidential office was asked what message Nawrocki would bring to the White House on September 3.
“First and foremost, the president will speak with President Trump about security issues: Poland’s internal and military security, as well as energy security,”
Bogucki stated.
According to him, President Nawrocki “will certainly reiterate what he said during the videoconference” (referring to the meeting of European leaders with Trump regarding Ukraine – editor’s note), namely that Russia and Vladimir Putin “must not be trusted.”
“I believe that every responsible Polish politician, and certainly the President of the Republic, should feel obliged, as indeed our president does, to state clearly that Russia very often, in fact almost always, whenever it has the opportunity, fails to honor agreements,”
Bogucki observed.
The head of the Chancellery was also asked whether Nawrocki would request additional security guarantees from the United States for Poland.
“President Nawrocki has spoken about this many times, and I can only repeat his words: the guarantee of Poland’s security lies, on one hand, in a strong, numerous, modern, and well-armed Polish army, and on the other hand, in the presence of American troops in Poland and Europe. But above all, from our perspective, here on NATO’s eastern flank,”
Bogucki stressed.
When asked whether we can be certain that the Americans will not want to reduce that presence or withdraw, the head of the Chancellery replied: “We will negotiate.” Pressed further on how Nawrocki intends to negotiate with Trump, he answered: “That is a conversation between two presidents, face to face,” adding that the relationship between Nawrocki and Trump is “very good.”
At the beginning of August, the Head of the Presidential Cabinet, Paweł Szefernaker, announced that the Polish president had been invited by the American leader to a meeting on September 3 in Washington.
