Rape of a Policewoman. Kierwiński Attacks TV Republika and Announces That He Will Not Resign

“There is a great deal of disinformation and, above all, lies being spread by the PiS radio loudspeaker, namely TV Republika, and by PiS MPs,” this is how Marcin Kierwiński commented on the scandal revealed by TV Republika concerning the rape of a policewoman, at the same time attacking the station. As he admitted – he does not intend to resign.

TV Republika revealed on Wednesday that the District Court in Piaseczno had ordered a three-month detention on remand for one of the superiors in the riot police units of the Warsaw Metropolitan Police Headquarters. The officer was charged with raping a young policewoman and forcing her to submit to another sexual act. The incident allegedly occurred during an alcohol-fueled company gathering.

According to findings by the Niezalezna.pl portal, the suspect was tested for alcohol only about five hours after the incident, and his detention took place almost 12 hours later. During that time, the officer remained in the same unit, under the supervision of police officers directly responsible for securing the scene and the course of the proceedings.

For several days now, the case has been stirring enormous emotions – not only because of the crime itself and the events following it, but also due to the evasion of responsibility by the highest state authorities, as well as the lack of solidarity from circles that built their political position on publicly supporting women.

It is worth recalling that on Thursday, when the issue of the rape of the policewoman was raised in the Polish parliament, Marcin Kierwiński, head of the Ministry of the Interior and Administration, appeared at the rostrum and – launched attacks against the opposition.

“I decided to take the floor because I can no longer listen to how you behave – PiS hyenas. You are hyenas. You are engaging in disgusting political games on the suffering of this woman. To be clear, in this case the reaction of the Polish police was immediate,” Kierwiński stated.

Will Kierwiński resign?

The rape of the policewoman is not the only recent scandal in the police. Just a few days later, another shocking piece of information emerged. A woman staying at the “Aramis” hotel in Warsaw – where police officers have been accommodated for years – reported a sexual assault that allegedly took place on the night of January 11-12. She identified a police officer as the perpetrator. Yesterday, in turn, Marcin Dobski revealed on the tvrepublika.pl portal that the head of one of the departments of the Municipal Police Headquarters in Olsztyn, Krzysztof W., was allegedly making immoral propositions to his subordinates.

Although the opposition is demanding Marcin Kierwiński’s resignation from the post of minister of the interior and administration, he himself claims that he “is doing a good job.”

He also admitted that around the rape of the policewoman “there is a great deal of disinformation and, above all, lies being spread by the PiS radio loudspeaker, namely TV Republika, and by PiS MPs,” thus attacking the House of Free Speech (Dom Wolnego Słowa), the station that revealed the scandal. He went on to insist: “But in this case, the police are presenting information very consistently and very reliably.”
