Series of false alarms. President on Kierwiński and Żurek: “In a normal country they would resign”

“In every normal country, after what has happened in recent days, weeks, and months, ministers – whether the justice minister or the interior minister – would simply resign,” said President Karol Nawrocki. The head of state commented in this way on a series of false alarms that were reportedly directed, among others, at his family.

Series of false alarms

On the evening of May 23, security services, after receiving a false report, forcibly entered an apartment in Gdańsk belonging to the mother of President Karol Nawrocki. The incident caused significant public concern. Similar false alerts also affected other well-known individuals.

Police intervened, among others, at the apartment of the CEO of TV Republika after a report of a supposed threat to the life of a minor. It later turned out to be unfounded, and during the operation an assistant to the station’s head was handcuffed.

Officers also appeared at a property belonging to Jarosław Kaczyński in Warsaw. According to Law and Justice (PiS) spokesperson Rafał Bochenek, the report concerned an alleged placement of explosive devices in the garden on the party leader’s property.

So far, only one report has led to charges being brought against two detained and temporarily arrested men. Media reports also mentioned a third detained person in the case. On Wednesday, the spokesperson of the National Police Headquarters, Sub-Inspector Robert Opas, stated that this person is not being held in connection with the investigation conducted by the prosecutor’s office.

President on Kierwiński and Żurek: In a normal country they would resign

President Karol Nawrocki was asked today about the series of false alarms. The head of state stressed that “in every normal country, after what has happened in recent days, weeks, and months, ministers – whether the justice minister or the interior minister – would simply resign.” He added that “this is what a certain ethical standard in political work requires.”

He also stated: “If a 20-year-old ‘little Batman’ was able to destabilize the functioning of the Polish state for an entire week, at a time when serious threats are present beyond our eastern border, if on one hand the justice minister is pursuing a former MP in the state of Washington while simultaneously releasing a 20-year-old ‘little Batman’ from prison, if we see what is happening around false alarms, then the entire public opinion expects such politicians to submit themselves to a certain social verification. Something is not working.”
