Sławosz Uznański has been selected as the second Polish astronaut to venture into space, announced the GovTech Center, an innovation and digitalization team working closely with the Polish Prime Minister’s Office. This significant event has been eagerly awaited in Poland since the historic mission of Mirosław Hermaszewski, the first Polish astronaut, 45 years ago. As a reserve member of the European Space Agency (ESA), Uznański’s journey to space marks a monumental achievement for the country. The GovTech Center expressed their heartfelt congratulations and anticipation for updates on the upcoming launch.

In November, the Polish Space Agency (POLSA) revealed that Dr. Sławosz Uznański, a Polish scientist, emerged victorious from a grueling selection process that lasted one and a half years, outshining over 22,000 candidates from across Europe. Aspiring astronauts underwent a series of tests, including assessments of their knowledge of space and space technologies, intelligence, computational abilities, problem-solving skills under time pressure, mental resilience, and ability to remain calm in stressful situations. They also underwent extensive medical examinations and multiple rounds of qualifying interviews, as emphasized by POLSA.

Dr. Sławosz Uznański, originally from Łódź, completed his studies with distinction at Łódź University of Technology in 2008, earning the title of Master of Engineering. That same year, he also obtained a Master of Engineering degree from the University of Nantes and an Engineering degree from the Nantes Institute of Technology, both in France. In 2011, he defended his doctoral thesis with honors at Aix-Marseille University in France. With his expertise in electronic systems and radiation effects, Dr. Uznański has authored a book and co-authored over 50 scientific articles.
