“So Primitive There Are No Words”: Backlash Over Civic Platform’s Clip on Nawrocki

“Go ahead, keep heading straight toward your political catastrophe,” addressed Civic Platform (PO) MEP Piotr Müller from Law and Justice (PiS). The politician’s reaction is shared by the majority of internet users, who are tearing the latest PO video to shreds.

The government machine, as if on cue, launched criticism of President Karol Nawrocki after he announced his veto of the so-called wind turbine bill. They have not let up for days, despite the fact that out of the 57 extensive articles in the draft law, only one was devoted to freezing electricity prices.

Within Civic Platform, someone came up with the idea to keep heating up the subject. As a result, a 15-second clip was posted on the party’s social media profiles. It features an artificial intelligence-generated worried elderly woman juxtaposed with the presidential motorcade and an armored BMW.

“He rides in luxury. You pay more because of his veto,” reads the narrator’s line against a menacing soundtrack.

The clip did not sit well with many commentators. Criticism came both from parliamentarians and from internet users hiding behind pseudonyms.

“This is so primitive, there are no words. But by all means, go ahead. Keep heading down this path toward your political catastrophe,” wrote PiS MEP Piotr Müller, reminding that the president’s bill on lower energy prices is waiting in the Sejm. “This time without wind turbines,” he added.

It also turns out that the special Protection-series BMW is used by another leading politician, Donald Tusk.
