Adam Borowski, an anti-communist opposition activist, sharply criticized the government’s push for Poland to join the SAFE program. Speaking on TV Republika, he argued that the project is primarily intended to strengthen the German arms industry while weakening Poland’s strategic security.
Donald Tusk is determined, at all costs, to have Poland join the SAFE program. In an interview on TV Republika, Borowski stated that the move would benefit Germany above all, rather than Poland.
SAFE Threatens Poland’s Security
“There is also a fundamental issue: if this program is so excellent, why aren’t the Germans taking out this loan? We are supposed to finance the German arms industry, because we will receive the loan and then be obliged to purchase from them,” Borowski said.
He further argued that Germany seeks to distance itself from relations with the United States, which, in his view, is detrimental to Poland’s security.
“No one will defend our Suwałki Gap for us. We must do it ourselves, in cooperation with NATO and the strongest armies — the American, British, and Turkish ones. Germany has an idea of building an army outside NATO structures. This is an attack on our Polish security,” Borowski added.
“No to the loan, yes to reparations,” “SAFE is German bondage and false security,” and “Stop German dominance” — these will be the main slogans of the rally organized by the Gazeta Polska Clubs at noon on February 21 in front of the Presidential Palace, Borowski announced.
