Swedish police reveal 600 gang members are hiding in 57 countries, continuing operations through international networks.
According to the Swedish National Operations Department (NOA), around 600 members of gangs operating in Sweden are hiding in 57 countries, including Poland. These criminals, many of whom are Swedish citizens or have strong ties to Sweden, continue to manage illegal activities abroad, such as drug trafficking, money laundering, and even ordering murders.
International Collaboration and Key Hiding Spots
Of these 600 individuals, 150 have been arrested or are wanted internationally. Countries like Spain, Turkey, and Balkan states serve as major hubs, with additional activities reported in the UAE, Morocco, Iraq, and Colombia. The gangs strategically relocate to escape Swedish law enforcement and strengthen their criminal operations. However, international cooperation through Europol and Interpol remains a critical tool for Swedish police.
Failed Integration Fuels Domestic Crime
Swedish Police Chief Petra Lundh highlights the link between failed social integration and rising gang violence. A surge in shootings and juvenile crime underlines the growing internal instability in Sweden, with 186 shootings and 31 deaths already recorded this year.
