In a highly charged interview with Telewizja Republika, PiS MEP Dominik Tarczyński strongly criticized the recent decision by Warsaw Mayor Rafał Trzaskowski to deny the permit for the annual Independence March, calling it an “absolutely scandalous” move. The event, which has been a tradition since 2010, typically takes place on November 11 to celebrate Poland’s regained independence.
Tarczyński suggested that Trzaskowski’s decision could backfire politically, alienating a large base of patriotic voters. “This is the biggest patriotic march in the country, attended by patriots, not just PiS or Confederation supporters,” Tarczyński emphasized, adding that the move could cost Trzaskowski any future presidential ambitions.
Despite administrative obstacles, Tarczyński predicted the march would be the largest in its history, fueled by frustration over the mayor’s decision. Concerns about potential provocations were also raised, with Tarczyński recalling previous incidents during past administrations, hinting that tensions could rise during this year’s event.
The debate over the march’s organization has reignited political tensions, further polarizing the Polish political landscape ahead of key upcoming elections.
