The exhibition ‘Colour of Life. Frida Kahlo’ at the Royal Lazienki Museum

Frida Kahlo, an eminent and fascinating artist of the 20th century, will be celebrated in an exhibition at the Royal Lazienki Museum from 7th July to 3rd September 2023. Visitors can immerse themselves in her unique world through vibrant paintings, photographs, and an outdoor installation inspired by her iconic La Casa Azul.

Frida’s art was an expressive representation of her turbulent life, filled with colors despite her immense suffering. The ‘Colour of Life. Frida Kahlo’ exhibition mirrors the dynamic essence of her biography and art, depicting her journey of identity-seeking, creative power, and resilience.

Despite enduring childhood polio and a severe teenage accident, Frida never lost her creative spirit. Influenced by Mexican indigenous culture and her deep connection to nature, she found strength to create art that resonates to this day.

Three of Frida’s paintings, including ‘My dress hangs there,’ ‘Coconuts,’ and ‘Still life with watermelons,’ are on display at the Officer Cadets School. The exhibition also features archival photos and a preserved 1941 film, offering a glimpse into her life and home at the Blue House.

Visitors can marvel at an outdoor installation that recreates parts of Frida Kahlo’s Blue House in Mexico’s Coyoacán district. The immersive space bursts with the colors and nature she cherished, complete with a statue of a Mexican deity, reminiscent of her garden’s native sculptures.

The exhibition was brought to life through the collaborative efforts of the Royal Lazienki Museum, the Mexican Embassy, and Colección Acervo INBAL – Museo de Arte Moderno. This initiative commemorates the 95th anniversary of Poland-Mexico diplomatic relations and the 65th anniversary of La Casa Azul’s creation.

In addition to the exhibition, a diverse educational program awaits visitors, including workshops, lectures, and guided tours in Polish, English, and Spanish.

Guided tours in English will take place on 15th July and 13th August 2023, offering in-depth insights into Frida’s artistry. Families can enjoy ‘Frida and Fridita,’ a creative space at the Old Guardhouse, where children can experience art through playful exploration.
