The Polish Diaspora Has Voted: Polls Close in North and South America

The voting process abroad has concluded in 89 precincts across North and South America, marking the end of overseas polling in these regions. The official results, however, will only be announced after voting concludes in Poland.

“Overall, the elections have been very calm, with a low number of reports. Two weeks ago, we had three reports of crimes; now, there’s only one,” said Sylwester Marciniak, Chairman of the National Electoral Commission (PKW), during a press briefing.

However, he noted a significant increase in minor violations compared to the first round of voting. “During the first round, 119 infractions were reported; this time, the number has risen to 148.”

These violations, Marciniak explained, are evenly distributed across the country. “One or two reports involved breaches of the election silence online.”

Reported offenses include one case of property damage (a crime), 77 cases of damaging or removing campaign banners, 42 cases of campaigning during the election silence, and 15 incidents of destroying electoral materials.

Marciniak also confirmed that voting abroad began as scheduled. In addition to the nearly 29 million eligible voters in Poland, over 700,000 citizens have registered to vote abroad — a record turnout, bolstered by more than 200,000 new registrations between the first and second rounds.

Polling in Poland runs from 7:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. Over 32,000 electoral commissions have been established across the country, with an additional 511 operating abroad to facilitate the presidential election.
