“The American operation targeting Venezuela has significance that extends far beyond the region of Latin America itself,” assessed Rafał Leśkiewicz, spokesman for the President of the Republic of Poland, in an interview with TV Republika. As he emphasized, U.S. actions constitute a clear signal both to Moscow and to Vladimir Putin personally, particularly in the context of the ongoing talks on ending the war in Ukraine.
A Clear Signal
“One has to look at this in a broader geopolitical context. Venezuela is a country that has been becoming dependent on the Russian Federation. Russian influence there was very strong. Of course, Cuban influence was also very strong,”
Leśkiewicz said.
In the view of the presidential spokesman, the current U.S. operation is more than just a regional intervention. It is a clear message sent to Moscow and to Vladimir Putin himself.
“The American operation is a clear signal that it is not only about removing both Americas from the influence of the Russian Federation, but also a direct signal to Putin himself that one must not trifle with President Trump and with the Americans,”
he assessed.
As he added, the importance of these actions is particularly significant in the context of the ongoing international talks that “are meant to end the war in Ukraine.”
No Resistance from the Regime
Leśkiewicz also drew attention to what can currently be seen on the streets of Venezuela following the removal of Nicolás Maduro. In his view, the lack of public reaction and the stance of the military are telling.
“If we look at the images coming out of Venezuela, no one is crying over Maduro. The military has taken no action,”
the spokesman said.
He also emphasized that the United States has for a long time pursued a policy of pressure toward Caracas.
“The Americans have been acting on Venezuela from a position of strength for quite some time. They repeatedly warned Maduro and his inner circle how his policies and actions would end, both those connected with drug trafficking and with the treatment of Venezuelan citizens,”
he added.
Democracy and Oil
In the assessment of the spokesman for the President of Poland, the situation in Venezuela will evolve toward the restoration of political order, but the issue of energy resources will also play a key role.
“The situation will likely develop in such a way that, in the longer term, a democratic order will be restored in Venezuela, but most importantly, oil resources will be exploited normally,”
he stated.
Leśkiewicz also recalled that Venezuela is a global powerhouse when it comes to reserves of this resource.
“Venezuela has the largest oil reserves in the world, more than Saudi Arabia. It is the most oil-rich country,”
he emphasized.
