Donald Trump announced that the United States will send an additional 5,000 American troops to Poland. In his statement, Trump emphasized his relationship with Polish President Karol Nawrocki and recalled that he had supported him during the election campaign. Following the American president’s post, politicians associated with Law and Justicereacted by linking Washington’s decision to years of efforts aimed at strengthening Polish-American relations.
The President of the United States announced on Thursday that America would deploy an additional 5,000 troops to Poland.
“Following the successful election of the current President of Poland, Karol Nawrocki, whom I proudly supported, and because of our relationship with him, I am pleased to announce that the United States will send another 5,000 troops to Poland. Thank you for your attention! President Donald J. Trump,” Trump wrote on Truth Social.
Politicians linked to PiS quickly reacted to the declaration. Member of the European Parliament Piotr Müller assessed that the decision was the result of relations built with the US administration.
“President Donald Trump announced the deployment of an additional 5,000 troops to Poland. He explicitly says this is the result of his excellent relations with President Karol Nawrocki,” Müller wrote.
In the next part of his post, the former spokesman for the government of Mateusz Morawiecki criticized the actions of the current Polish government.
“Learn from this, Mr. Donald Tusk. This is how you take care of Poland’s security. Instead of your quarrels and the unprofessional moves of Radosław Sikorski, which only served to gain temporary applause in Brussels salons, you should have been building relationships aimed at developing long-term and proven alliances,” the PiS MEP stated.
Müller also emphasized that “the Polish army has been growing stronger for many years,” adding that during PiS rule its numbers increased “by tens of thousands of soldiers.”
Former culture minister Piotr Gliński also commented on Trump’s statement.
“Tusk just can’t catch a break: President Trump has just announced that thanks to President Nawrocki he will increase the number of American troops in Poland by 5,000,” Gliński wrote.
“And Mr. Tusk tried so hard not to upset the Germans… So what is Tusk even needed for, if Nawrocki gets everything done. Thank God!” the former minister added.
So far, no details have been provided regarding where the additional US forces would be stationed or the timeline for their possible deployment to Poland.
