Tragedy in Ternopil: 7-Year-Old Polish Girl Killed in Russian Attack

A 7-year-old Polish citizen was killed in the massive Russian strike on Ternopil. Amelka, as the girl was named, did not survive the night-time attack together with her mother. She is another victim of Russian aggression among Polish citizens staying in Ukraine.

The tragic information appeared on Friday on the X platform. “A Polish girl murdered in Ukraine. Amelia. During the night of November 18–19, Russia attacked civilians in Ternopil. Among the victims of this barbarity is a 7-year-old Polish citizen – Amelka,” wrote Maciej Wewiór, spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

As the representative of Polish diplomacy emphasized, the girl died together with her mother during the night-time strike. The Polish diplomatic mission remains in constant contact with the authorities of the Ternopil region in connection with this tragedy.

Mass Attack on Civilians

The attack on Ternopil, a city located in western Ukraine, took place on Wednesday morning, November 19. That day, Russian forces carried out one of the largest assaults on Ukraine in recent times, using more than 470 drones and nearly 50 missiles.

In Ternopil, two residential buildings became the target of the bombardment, and intense fires broke out inside. For days that followed, rescuers searched the rubble of the destroyed buildings in a desperate attempt to find the missing.

By Friday, the death toll from the attack on Ternopil had risen to 31. Rescuers recovered the bodies of three more victims from the rubble that day, including two children. A total of 94 people were injured, and 13 remain missing.

The strike on Ternopil was part of a broader operation targeting civilian infrastructure in western Ukraine. The Lviv and Ivano-Frankivsk regions were also subjected to bombardment.

The deaths of little Amelka and her mother are yet another proof that Russian attacks are deliberately aimed at civilians, regardless of the age or nationality of the victims. It is also a reminder of how deeply the conflict in Ukraine affects Polish citizens residing in the country.
