    Tragic Death of Prison Service Officer at Sosnowiec Concert

    Marcin Mizia, a 28-year-old footballer and Prison Service officer, was fatally beaten at an outdoor concert in Sosnowiec, Poland. The incident occurred during the Sosnowiec Fun Festival at the Zagłębiowski Sports Park on June 9th. Mizia, a resident of Jastrzębie-Zdrój, was found unconscious by responding police officers and was in critical condition when transported to the hospital. Despite medical efforts, he succumbed to his injuries on June 12th.

    Mizia’s tragic death has left a profound impact on his colleagues and the community. The Prison Service expressed deep sorrow over the loss of their dedicated officer. “It is with deep sadness that we inform you of the death of Corporal Marcin Mizia on June 12, 2024, following a fatal beating on June 9th. We extend our heartfelt condolences to Marcin’s family and loved ones,” stated the Prison Service.

    Marcin was known for his passion for sports, especially football. He played for KS Spójni Landek and was a product of MOSiR Jastrzębie-Zdrój. His commitment to physical activity was well-known, and he was regarded as a dedicated and reliable colleague.

    The investigation into Mizia’s death is being conducted by the Sosnowiec-Północ District Prosecutor’s Office and the police. Surveillance footage has been secured, and initial witness statements have been collected. The day following the incident, three 16-year-olds from Sosnowiec were arrested in connection with the crime. They have been placed in a juvenile detention center for three months by court order. Authorities have not disclosed the motive behind the attack.

    In a final act of generosity, Mizia’s organs will be donated to save the lives of others, as per his family’s consent.
