Tragic Discovery in Forest: Former Toruń Police Chief Found Dead

A grim discovery was made in the forests of Łysomice, near Toruń, where the body of a 53-year-old man was found. Local media outlet ototorun.pl confirmed the deceased is Maciej Lewandowski, the former Chief of Police in Toruń.

Police have conducted a detailed investigation at the scene under the supervision of the prosecutor’s office. According to asp. Dominika Bocian, spokesperson for the Toruń Police Department, initial findings do not suggest foul play in Lewandowski’s death.

Lewandowski’s police career spanned over three decades, beginning in 1991. He served in Nakło and Bydgoszcz before moving to Toruń, where he spent the final 10 years of his career, including time as deputy chief and later chief of police. He retired in early 2022 and was honored by city officials, politicians, clergy, and academics during his farewell ceremony.

In 2023, Lewandowski became the rector’s safety advisor at Nicolaus Copernicus University (UMK). His duties included overseeing campus safety, reviewing event permit applications, and ensuring the protection of university assets.

Authorities are continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding his death.
