Today at 12:00 pm in Nowy Lubiel, a solemn farewell will be held for the late soldier Private Mateusz Sitek, who died following an aggressive attack by a migrant at the Polish-Belarusian border. The military, on behalf of the family, has requested respect for their difficult time, asking not to visit the family’s residence, attend, or document the vigil and funeral ceremony.

“On June 12 at 11:00 am, the funeral of Private Mateusz Sitek, who died protecting our country’s border, will take place. Let us honor his memory. Tomorrow at 12:00 pm, let sirens of our patrol cars sound nationwide, as a mark of respect for Mateusz and solidarity with all uniformed services ensuring the safety of the Polish border,” the Police and Fire Brigade announced on social media.

    Incident at the Border

The soldier was stabbed on May 28. The military officer was attacked at a section of the border near Dubicze Cerkiewne (Podlaskie Voivodeship) by one of the criminals who tried to breach the steel barrier in a group. While the soldier used a protective shield to block the breach, the assailant reached through the fence and stabbed him in the chest. Branches and stones were thrown at the wounded soldier and the Border Guard officer assisting him.
