Tragic fire in Crans-Montana, Switzerland. Poles among the injured

Among those injured in the fire that broke out on New Year’s Eve in a bar in Crans-Montana are two people from Poland – according to information provided by the Swiss police, which has completed the identification of all 116 injured individuals. According to the police, 83 of the injured remain in hospital.

In the fire, which broke out at around 1:30 a.m. on the night from Wednesday to Thursday at the Le Constellation bar in Crans-Montana, 40 people were killed and 119 were injured; the condition of many of them is described as serious or very serious.

A total of 21 Swiss citizens were killed in the tragedy, along with nine French citizens (including one person holding French-Swiss citizenship and another holding three passports: French, Israeli, and British). In addition, six Italians lost their lives in the fire (including one person holding Italian and United Arab Emirates citizenship), as well as a Belgian, a Portuguese national, a Romanian, and a citizen of Turkey. The youngest victim was 14; the oldest was 39.

On Sunday, hundreds of people paid tribute to the victims of the disaster in a silent march through the streets of the Swiss resort. The Swiss prosecution service brought three charges against the bar’s owners: involuntary manslaughter, causing bodily harm through negligence, and negligent arson.
