“I have ordered two Nuclear Submarines to be positioned in the appropriate regions” announced U.S. President Donald Trump on the Truth Social platform. He stated that the decision was prompted by a recent statement made by Dmitry Medvedev, Deputy Chairman of the Security Council of the Russian Federation.
In recent days, Dmitry Medvedev criticized Donald Trump for issuing an ultimatum to Russia regarding a deadline for ending the war in Ukraine. In response, the U.S. President called the Russian official an “incompetent former president of Russia who still thinks he is in charge.” Trump added, “He should be told to watch his words. He’s treading into very dangerous territory.”
“Dead Hand”
Medvedev replied: “If some words from a former president of Russia provoke such a nervous reaction from such a dangerous U.S. president, it means Russia is right about everything and will continue along its chosen path.”
Addressing another part of Trump’s post, in which the U.S. president declared that the economies of India and Russia are “dead,” Medvedev wrote: “As for the ‘dead economies’ of India and Russia and ‘venturing into dangerous territory’—well, he should remember his favorite zombie movies, as well as how dangerous the supposedly non-existent ‘Dead Hand’ can be.”
The “Dead Hand” refers to an automatic nuclear retaliation system designed to launch a counterattack even if the command and control structure is destroyed in a nuclear strike.
Submarine Deployment Decision
Trump responded to Medvedev’s position on Friday. “Based on the highly provocative statements of the Former President of Russia, Dmitry Medvedev, who is now the Deputy Chairman of the Security Council of the Russian Federation, I have ordered two Nuclear Submarines to be positioned in the appropriate regions, just in case these foolish and inflammatory statements are more than just that,” he wrote on Truth Social.
“Words are very important, and can often lead to unintended consequences, I hope this will not be one of those instances,” he emphasized.
