Donald Tusk and Radosław Sikorski accused Hungary’s foreign minister of informing Russia about all discussions held within the European Union. This information was reported by the American newspaper The Washington Post and later repeated by German politician Jürgen Nauditt. Péter Szijjártó responded briefly to Tusk: “Instead of spreading lies and fake news, come to Budapest and support the opposition! Last time it worked for us.”
The American daily The Washington Post reported that Hungary’s foreign minister Péter Szijjártó regularly called Russia between meetings at the European Union to provide his Russian counterpart, Sergey Lavrov, with live updates from ongoing talks.
“The news that Orbán’s people are informing Moscow about meetings of the EU Council in detail should surprise no one. We have long suspected this. This is one of the reasons why I speak only when absolutely necessary and say only as much as needed,” commented Donald Tusk.
In response, Péter Szijjártó accused the Polish prime minister of “spreading lies.”
“Instead of spreading lies and fake news, come to Budapest and support the opposition! It helped… us recently,” the head of Hungarian diplomacy invited Tusk to Budapest.
It is worth recalling that accusations of pro-Russian tendencies against the Hungarian authorities are being made by politicians who themselves were architects of the reset with Moscow, who abandoned the American missile defense shield because it might have displeased Russia, and who celebrated Sergey Lavrov by organizing, among other things, training sessions for Polish ambassadors. Moreover, they have the audacity to accuse President Karol Nawrocki of being pro-Russian – despite the fact that he is wanted by Vladimir Putin under an arrest warrant.
