Tusk: “At midnight from Wednesday to Thursday, we are reopening border crossings with Belarus”

“I would like to inform you of the decision, taken together with the head of the Ministry of Interior and Administration (MSWiA), who will shortly issue the appropriate regulation on the reopening of border crossings, both rail and road. These were closed in connection with the ZAPAD maneuvers and, understandably, due to the increased threat and political instability, both real and potential, at our borders and in our region,” said Prime Minister Donald Tusk during a government meeting.

Since midnight on Thursday, September 12, all of Poland’s border crossings with Belarus have been closed until further notice. Traffic in both directions has been suspended. MSWiA chief Marcin Kierwiński, speaking in Terespol after the closure of the border, stressed that traffic would resume only when the safety of Poles is fully guaranteed.

The closure of all border crossings with Belarus had previously been announced by Donald Tusk. As he explained, it was connected to the Russian-Belarusian military exercises Zapad-2025.

The suspension of border traffic with the Republic of Belarus applies in both directions – leaving Poland for Belarus and entering our country. It concerns both road transport and freight trains.

On Tuesday, the Ministry of Interior and Administration (MSWiA) stated that the conclusion of the Zapad-2025 maneuvers does not mean the border will reopen, and it remains closed until further notice. Traffic will be restored, as the ministry declared, once the border is fully secure.
