Prime Minister Donald Tusk said today that he would welcome with open arms any help and willingness to cooperate from President Karol Nawrocki. However, alongside these kind words, he issued a menacing caveat. “Anywhere Nawrocki tries to interfere, he’ll find out what the constitutional rule means. That is, who governs the country!” Tusk said. “And if necessary, I’ll be ruthless,” he added.
Tusk was asked during a press conference in Męcina how he envisions cooperation with the new president, Karol Nawrocki. He replied that the government has a lot of work to do and that “anyone willing to help – regardless of political views or the office they hold – will be a welcome partner.”
He added that “he had the pleasure, and at times it was quite a serious challenge, to work with many presidents practically since the beginning of the Third Republic of Poland (III RP).” He noted that, as prime minister, he has worked with three presidents so far, and Karol Nawrocki will be the fourth.
“Wherever the new president wants to help, I’ll welcome his willingness to cooperate with open arms. Wherever he wants to interfere, he’ll find out what the constitutional rule means – namely, who runs the country – and I will be very consistent on this point. And if necessary, ruthless,” Tusk said.
When asked about his opinion on the composition of President Karol Nawrocki’s Chancellery, the head of government replied: “I don’t have a formed opinion, because I don’t know the composition. Once I do, I’ll probably have an opinion – but likely without enthusiasm.”
