Tusk Praises Cabinet Council, Plans Meeting with President Before U.S. Visit

President Karol Nawrocki and Prime Minister Donald Tusk will meet before Nawrocki’s September trip to the USA to agree on details of Poland’s agenda for talks with Donald Trump. The planned consultations were announced by Tusk, who expressed satisfaction with the course of the Cabinet Council.

From 9 a.m. until around noon, the Cabinet Council took place with the participation of the president, his experts, as well as the prime minister and ministers of his government. The president wanted to obtain information about the state of the economy, progress in building the Central Communication Port (CPK), and the government’s position on the agreement with Mercosur.

“I am very satisfied with the meeting, because from the very beginning, regardless of all political differences (…) we are together with President Karol Nawrocki looking for common ground. This mainly concerns security, international policy, and such strategic interests of Poland” – emphasized Donald Tusk in a statement before his flight to Moldova.

“Everywhere we manage to build this common space and cooperation for Poland, let us treat it as something priceless in Polish politics” – he appealed.

Tusk praised the president, but also himself. “We will not bridge these differences. I know why I am ready for tough confrontation on important matters for Poland from my point of view, with any external opponent, and here with a political opponent in Poland. But with the President of the Republic, we will and must seek this common ground. Today’s Cabinet Council was another, and in my opinion a successful, attempt” – assessed the prime minister.

They will test their strength in diplomacy

He emphasized that on the issue of wind turbines, he and President Nawrocki “fundamentally” disagree. However, he sees common ground in diplomacy.

“International cooperation will be a top priority. We have agreed with the president, even on such personal one-on-one contact. And we will coordinate this international policy with the best intentions” – he declared, informing that he had promised the same to the president.

He also announced that he would meet President Karol Nawrocki before his trip to Washington. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MSZ) has already provided the president with guidelines for the meeting.
