The EU–Mercosur agreement enters into force on May 1. “The disgrace of Stefan Krajewski, the Minister of Agriculture, will never be erased. What did the so-called Polish government do? Nothing. There was no complaint to the Court of Justice of the European Union, there was no blockade – this is a betrayal of the interests of the Polish countryside!” declared Michał Woś, an MP from Law and Justice (PiS).
EU–Mercosur agreement comes into force on May 1
On May 1, the EU–Mercosur agreement, which harms European farmers, comes into force. The December 13 coalition government, despite earlier declarations, did not challenge the agreement before the Court of Justice of the European Union, which has been strongly criticized by the opposition. Prof. Przemysław Czarnek, Law and Justice (PiS) candidate for prime minister, pointed out in a recording published on social media that the EU–Mercosur agreement is a “deadly threat to Polish farmers and to Poland’s food security.”
“This government not only did nothing on this matter. It did not even want to create a blocking minority and is yielding to the will of Germany. We must stand up to this and guarantee Polish farmers the ability to function normally. Down with Mercosur!” he stressed.
Meanwhile, MP Michał Woś stated that “the disgrace of Stefan Krajewski, the Minister of Agriculture, will never be erased.”
“These huge beef quotas are already prepared to flood the European market. What did the so-called Polish government do? Nothing. There was no complaint to the Court of Justice of the European Union, there was no blockade – this is a betrayal of the interests of the Polish countryside!” he said.
Ursula von der Leyen misled Europeans
From May 1, significantly larger quantities of beef from Mercosur countries will enter the European Union than previously declared by Brussels – amounting to tens of thousands of tonnes. Moreover, the European Commission has handed South American countries control over the system for allocating export quotas. In practice, this means that these countries will decide which companies, and to what extent, will be allowed to export beef to the EU market.
