A bronze monument commemorating Poles murdered by Ukrainian nationalists in Volhynia and Eastern Galicia will be unveiled on Sunday in Domostawa, near Nisko (Podkarpackie).
Monument Details
Created by the late Andrzej Pityński, the 20-meter-high bronze sculpture depicts an eagle engulfed in flames with the names of affected towns on its wings. The center of the monument features a cross with trident-shaped forks impaling a child’s body. The base shows a family in flames on one side and children’s heads on fence posts on the other.
Unveiling Ceremony
The unveiling ceremony will begin at 11 AM with a field Mass, followed by the official part and the blessing of the sculpture. A memory appeal is also planned.
Legacy of Andrzej Pityński
Andrzej Pityński, who passed away on September 18, 2020, was a renowned sculptor. He also created the Katyn Memorial in Jersey City and the American Polonia War Effort Memorial in Warsaw. His last work, the Cursed Soldiers Monument in Jasło, was unveiled on September 27, 2019.
