Will Ursula von der Leyen Be Removed from Office? Jaki: “Europe Needs a Radical Change”

“We will vote in favor of dismissing Ursula von der Leyen during this session. I asked: why, if they talk so much about ‘fighting Russia,’ do they allow Germany to arrest and prosecute from Poland the man who blew up Nord Stream 2?” declared Patryk Jaki, a Member of the European Parliament (MEP) from Poland’s Law and Justice party (PiS). In his speech, the politician emphasized that “a radical change is necessary.”

On Thursday, the European Parliament will hold a vote on the dismissal of European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen. The politician addressed the issue today, appealing to MEPs to allow her to remain in office.

“I know that some of you are still unsure how to vote this week, but I also know that your doubts stem from genuine concern,” she said.

The head of the European Commission also promised that she is ready to “cooperate” with MEPs in order to jointly seek “solutions.”

PiS MEP Patryk Jaki referred to the upcoming vote in his address to the European Parliament. He also drew attention to the actions of German authorities seeking the arrest of a Ukrainian man accused of blowing up Nord Stream 2, a gas pipeline that was a joint Russian-German investment.

“It’s unbearable to keep listening to you talk about how we must fight Russia. Meanwhile, and I don’t know if everyone here realizes this, Germany has just submitted a request to arrest the Ukrainian who blew up Nord Stream. The Russians can kill whoever they want every day, shoot at civilians, bomb hospitals, but apparently it’s forbidden to blow up a pipeline that helps them finance their war against Ukraine. You claim to be fighting Russia, yet you still refuse to seize their frozen assets in Europe. We already have 17 sanctions packages, and they have achieved absolutely nothing. Russia continues to laugh at us.

Mr. Prime Minister, it’s amusing that you invoked Robert Schuman, whom we all admire, and the European values he defended. Among those values, you mentioned the climate. I know of a value he held above all others, one you failed to mention: Christianity. He said that Europe will be Christian, or it will not exist at all. He wrote that Europe owes its existence to Christianity because it must have a soul, and that soul is what you are systematically destroying.

You, Mr. Prime Minister, are calling for treaty changes and the removal of the member states’ veto rights,” said Jaki.

He also recalled Schuman’s words from May 9, 1950, when Schuman stated that he was “not in favor of Europe merging into a single state,” but saw the European Union as “a community of nations deeply rooted in their traditions.”

“Let’s call things by their name: the Green Deal you keep referring to is a scam and a fraud. We have lost everything in this regard. Our oil is much more expensive than in China or the U.S., and our economic growth is lower. Global CO₂ emissions continue to rise every year instead of falling. We’ve even lost the competition for green technologies to China,” Jaki declared.

In his view, “Europe needs a radical change.”

“We must return to our roots. Back then, Europe was a power because it was founded on values. What you are proposing now is a path from which Europe will not recover. A radical change is necessary!” he concluded.
