Iga Swiatek won the WTA tournament in Adelaide. In the final, the Polish player defeated Belinda Bencic 6:2, 6:2. For the 19-year-old, it is the second triumph of her senior career, after winning last year’s French Open.
The match on centre court in Adelaide started with Iga Świątek’s serve. The Pole won the first game confidently and the Swiss responded in a similar style. The two tennis players battled evenly until the sixth game. Bencic committed as many as four double faults in the match and Iga used the opportunity to break her opponent.
Iga Świątek played very confidently in the first set.
The 19-year-old wasn’t going to let that chance slip through her fingers, and moments later she was able to enjoy the first-set victory against her more experienced opponent. After 36 minutes of play, the Pole was one step closer to her second career triumph.
For the teenage Pole, it was the third final in her senior career. In 2019, she lost a duel in Lugano to Polona Hercog to achieve the greatest success in Polish tennis history a year later. She won the French Open at Roland Garros, beating Sofia Kenin in the final. Now in Adelaide, she was the best again.
Iga Świątek (Poland, WTA 18) – Belinda Bencic (Switzerland, WTA 12) 6:2, 6:2
