The Sejm approved the candidacy of Dr. Karol Nawrocki

On Friday, the Sejm (lower house of Polish parliament) appointed Dr. Karol Nawrocki as head of the Institute of National Remembrance. In order for him to take over this office, the election of the Sejm must be approved by the Senate (upper house) as well.

Dr. Karol Nawrocki – a 38-year-old historian, a graduate of the University of Gdańsk, also a social activist, human resource management specialist, and since April 2017 the director of the Museum of the Second World War in Gdańsk – was unanimously recommended by the College of Institute of National Remembrance to the Parliament. College is a consultative and advisory body composed mainly of historians, operating under the President of the Institute of National Remembrance. The College of the Institute of National Remembrance is headed by prof. Wojciech Polak, who on Friday presented the profile of Karol Nawrocki to the deputies.

The term of office of the incumbent head of the Institute of National Remembrance, Jarosław Szarek, ends in July. If the parliament does not appoint a new president of the Institute of National Remembrance by then, Jarosław Szarek will act as acting President of the Institute of National Remembrance.
