Iga Świątek says goodbye to Wimbledon in 1/8 finals

Iga Świątek lost 7:5, 1:6, 1:6 with Tunisian tennis player, Ons Jabeur in the one-eighth finals of the English Wimbledon tournament. The young Pole outscored her more experienced opponent in the first set, but in the end, it was Jabeur who made fewer errors and eliminated Świątek.

Świątek has been on a roll in the London Grand Slam tournament so far, not losing a single set. Unfortunately, very weak serves in the second and third sets against Jabeur did not allow her to get past her next opponent. The 21st-ranked Tunisian, on the other hand, was in very good form today and had a bit of luck on her side.

Ons Jabeur had not done so well at Wimbledon before, but the victory over Świątek allowed her to equal her best Grand Slam result, which is the quarter-final of the 2020 Australian Open. This year in London, she has already won against, among others, the famous American Venus Williams, who has her best years behind her, but she also defeated the 2017 triumpher Garbine Muguruza of Spain.

Świątek, whose coach is Piotr Sierzputowski, was the triumpher of the junior Wimbledon three years ago, competed in the senior edition of the event for the second time in her career. She lost her opening match in her debut two years ago, and last year’s competition was cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
