The German media are in awe of the situation on the Polish labor market and point out that the long-term economic boom has reversed a trend that had been unfavorable for many years. “The Polish labor market is today a success story, also concerning the effects of the coronavirus,” writes the ARD portal in correspondence from Warsaw.
“The pandemic made little difference in this regard, although many people lost their jobs due to the closure. Most of them found work elsewhere, became self-employed – and only in June, 300 thousand job vacancies appeared on the labor market again,” calculated Anna Wicha from the association of employment agencies.
“Polish employers are not afraid and are optimistic about the future,” said Wicha.
“In purely demographic terms, Poland is on its way to becoming structurally the oldest nation in Europe because of the mass emigration of especially young people after EU accession and the low birth rate”.
Overall, however, “the Polish labor market is today a success story, also concerning the effects of the coronavirus, which have been mitigated by, among other things, financial aid for the companies particularly affected,” notes ARD. But “there is one drawback: younger people often end up in sham self-employment without social security, popularly known as junk contracts”.
