A synthesis of the four seasons and light – this is how painter Leon Tarasewicz describes the picture painted for the World Expo 2020 in Dubai.
The painting, measuring 3.4 by 13.5 meters, will be part of the Podlasie Voivodeship presentation at the Expo.
Originally the presentation was to be called Woodopolis (Drewnopolis), but it was changed to Xylopolis; the leitmotif is wood. The organizers of Xylopolis explain that this presentation is about showing Poland as a country that combines elements of environmental protection and sustainable economic and social development with the preservation of cultural heritage.
Leon Tarasewicz, a well-known and respected painter from the region, has painted a picture which will be included in the temporary exhibitions of the Polish exhibition in Dubai. He created it for two weeks in the hall of the Unihouse company in Bielsk Podlaski. As he said, he chose this place because a work of this height would not fit in his home studio.
“This is part of the pavilion and in such a case, when you design a work for it, on the one hand, this work should stand alone, and on the other hand, you also know that it will be a background for other objects, other showcases that are designed there. I had a plan for this pavilion, so I knew what kind of work is needed. Anyway, this is how I often work with exhibitions, based on a plan,” said the artist.
Referring to the color scheme, he said it was a synthesis of the four seasons and light. “A synthesis of the forest, in different ways with the energy of light interacting, so that this could function as part of this whole exhibition (…). In paintings, not everything is so translatable, one to one, because then the viewer and our intellect would be unnecessary. It is also an intermediate thought that should function between me, the work, the viewer, and other elements of the exhibition”, said Tarasewicz.
