An attempt to force us to hand over our sovereignty into the hands of Brussels’ officials is unacceptable, said the Speaker of the Sejm, Elżbieta Witek, referring to the issue of the primacy of the EU law over the Polish Constitution. “We are a country under attack from all sides,” she assessed.
As Witek said in an interview with TVP Info, statements from Brussels’ officials that everything would be settled if Poland agreed to recognize the superiority of EU law over the Polish Constitution are unacceptable.
“An attempt to force us to hand over our sovereignty into the hands of Brussels officials is unacceptable to us,” emphasized the Speaker of the Sejm.
Witek added that many European Union countries were in a similar situation – their national tribunals ruled the supremacy of national law over the EU law and everyone recognized it, even the Brussels’ officials.
“In the case of Poland, it is different, so we are a country under attack from all sides,” she assessed.
According to her, this is because Poland was a reservoir of cheap labour-power and raw materials for the EU. Meanwhile, the Polish economy is developing well.
“And economically strong and sovereign Poland is not convenient for many countries,” she added.
