Port in Ustka may become a service base for PGE wind farms

Representatives of PGE, PGE Baltica, and the City of Ustka signed a letter of intent concerning the possibility of establishing a service facility for the planned offshore wind farms in the seaport in Ustka.

“The construction of offshore wind energy is a key element of Poland’s transformation, not only in terms of energy but also in terms of the economy. Thanks to such investment new workplaces may be created in Ustka and the city and the region will gain new opportunities for development and attracting new investments. The service base in Ustka, due to its proximity to the planned offshore farms, maybe a significant factor in optimising maintenance costs and guaranteeing efficient farm management, which will be important for us during the operation of our installations,” says Wojciech Dąbrowski, President of the Management Board of PGE Polska Grupa Energetyczna.

The seaport in Ustka is one of the possible locations of the service and maintenance base for the planned investments in offshore wind farms in the Baltic Sea. The location of the port concerning the planned wind farms, its size, good navigational conditions, availability of investment land, as well as positive attitude of the city authorities and the Port Authority towards the planned undertaking is all in favour of this location.

“As the host of the city I am happy about the new economic opportunities for Ustka, we want to use them effectively. I am also glad that PGE has declared its support for our activities aimed at the redevelopment of the harbour in Ustka, including the construction of an access road bypassing the city centre. I also count on PGE’s involvement in the implementation of social projects which are so necessary for our inhabitants,” sums up Mayor Jacek Maniszewski.

PGE together with Ørsted is building the largest wind farm in the Polish part of the Baltic Sea. Baltica Offshore Wind Farm project with a total capacity of 2.5 GW. Under the joint project, PGE is responsible for, among other things, the construction and operation of a service port, which will become the base for jointly developed offshore wind farms.

The Port of Ustka, along with the Port of Łeba, is one of those indicated in the National Reconstruction Plan, where it was emphasized that the offshore wind energy sector represents an opportunity for Poland’s economic development, including the construction and development of the so-called local content, the key element of which is the construction of port infrastructure for the construction and subsequent operation of offshore wind farms.
